Bangladesh has replaced India as the world's second largest exporter of knitwear, after China. Bangladesh imported most of the raw materials, mainly yarn, from India at higher prices, traders said.

Salam Osman, President of Bangladesh knitwear manufactures and Exporters Association (BKMEA), said: "we are now the second largest exporter in the world, second only to China."

But he did not give the exact number of Bangladesh's share in the world export market.

With the instability of electricity supply and the turbulence of labor force, this remarkable success has been achieved through the efforts of the knitting industry.

Instability and unrest in electricity supply often disrupt production.

In the 2010-11 fiscal year, the export of knitwear in Bangladesh increased by 46.25% to $9 billion 480 million, while total clothing exports increased by 43.35%, which was close to $18 billion.

The export target of the clothing sector is set at $20 billion 290 million, while the country's total export target is US $26 billion 300 million, and last year's fiscal year was US $18 billion 500 million.

In the 2010-11 fiscal year, Bangladesh's exports rose by 41.5% to $22 billion 920 million.

The total exports of woven and knitted garments in Bangladesh showed an upward trend.

Because India has recently offered concessions to Bangladesh's 46 category of clothing products, traders said.

The potential of India's knitting industry is to build on the strong raw materials, but the problems caused by the cost of high eldest generation and hydropower are the main reasons for India's defeat to Bangladesh. The India Textile Industry Federation said.

India's stringent labour laws and the focus of electricity and water supply are the main problems facing India's knitwear manufacturers and exporters, according to industrial news from India.

Bangladesh's exports of knitted goods may exceed India's demand for global demand for knitted goods, the India Textile Industry Federation said.

China continues to become the world's largest knitwear.

Exit

China's annual export volume reached US $53 billion 800 million, meeting the global demand of 33.5%, the India Textile Industry Federation said.

The Federation of India textile industries said that India and Bangladesh had 2.5% share of the global knitwear market in 2005.

Bangladesh has an advantage over India in exporting T-shirts, T-Shirts, cardigan and children's garments.
